This document lists some of the popular modem's startup strings and dip-switch settings. In order, the modems covered here are: - US Robotics HST "Dual Standard" - Multitech 224E(h) - Hayes 2400 - Multitech 9600 baud V.32 modem - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - US Robotics HST "Dual Standard" ------------------------------- The Startup Strings and result codes for this modem is listed in the STARTUP.2 file located on your distribution disk as "\MAGNUM\PGM_DIR\STARTUP.2" LARGE switch labeled CTS: UP The 10 dipswitches next to that large switch are as follows: Switch# Setting 1 UP 2 DOWN 3 DOWN 4 DOWN 5 UP 6 UP 7 UP 8 DOWN 9 DOWN 10 UP - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MultiTech 224E(h) ----------------- The Startup Strings and result codes for this modem is listed in the STARTUP.1 file located on your distribution disk as "\MAGNUM\PGM_DIR\STARTUP.1" The dip-switch settings for this modem are as follows: The 8-switch block on the bottom of the modem: Switch# Setting 1 UP 2 DOWN 3 DOWN 4 DOWN 5 DOWN 6 UP 7 UP 8 DOWN The 4-switch block on the inside of the modem: Switch# Setting 1 DOWN 2 UP 3 DOWN 4 DOWN All jumpers on the inside of the modem (there's 3 of them) should be jumpered towards the front two pins. The front is the side where the modem lights are. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hayes 2400 ---------- BAUDRATE: 2400 PARITY: n DATABITS: 8 STOPBITS: 1 WAITCARRIER: 30 MODEMRESET: AT STARTUP1: AT &F&W STARTUP2: AT STARTUP3: AT S10=7E0V0M0Q0&C1&D2S0=1&W REINIT: AT DELAY1: 1500 DELAY2: 1500 DELAY3: 2500 DTELOCKED: n ANSWERTYPE: a OPENMODE: n ANSWERCMD: ATA ONHOOK: ATH0 OFFHOOK: ATH1 ESC_CMDMODE: +++ ESC_GRDTIM: 700 GO_ONLINE: AT O END_OFFHOOK: N RC_110: RC_150: RC_300: 1 RC_600: RC_1200: 5 RC_2400: 10 RC_4800: RC_9600: RC_19200: ERRORCHECK: n ERC_110: ERC_150: ERC_300: ERC_600: ERC_1200: ERC_2400: ERC_4800: ERC_9600: ERC_19200: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Multitech 9600 baud V.32 modem ------------------------------------- The dip-switch settings for this modem are as follows: The 4-switch block: Switch# Setting 1 DOWN 2 UP 3 DOWN 4 DOWN The 8-switch block: Switch# Setting 1 UP 2 DOWN 3 DOWN 4 DOWN 5 UP 6 UP 7 UP 8 DOWN Startup Sequences: BAUDRATE: 19200 PARITY: n DATABITS: 8 STOPBITS: 1 WAITCARRIER: 30 MODEMRESET: AT Z STARTUP1: AT &F STARTUP2: AT E0 &E1 &E4 &E15 $SB19200 $BA0 &R1 STARTUP3: AT V0 M1 Q0 X1 S0=1 S2=255 S7=30 &W0 REINIT: AT Z DELAY1: 1000 DELAY2: 1500 DELAY3: 1500 DTELOCKED: y ANSWERTYPE: a OPENMODE: n ANSWERCMD: ATA ONHOOK: ATH0 OFFHOOK: ATH1 ESC_CMDMODE: +++ ESC_GRDTIME: 1200 GO_ONLINE: AT O END_OFFHOOK: N RC_110: RC_150: RC_300: 1 RC_600: RC_1200: 5 RC_2400: 9 RC_4800: 11 RC_9600: 12 RC_19200: ERRORCHECK: y ERC_110: ERC_150: ERC_300: 1R ERC_600: ERC_1200: 5R ERC_2400: 9R ERC_4800: 11R ERC_9600: 12R ERC_19200: =========================================================================== IMPORTANT! Modem models change very fast. For example, the US Robotics "Dual Standard" modem we're using is the older modem with v.32 (9600 baud) capability. The newer "Dual Standard" modems have v.32bis (14400 baud) capability. For the fastest possible setup for any modem, once you've filled in your STARTUPx strings, use Verbose (word) result codes (a V1 anywhere in your STARTUP strings should turn on verbose result codes). Then: VERBOSE_CONNECT: CONNECT (Hayes 9600 baud modems, use VERBOSE_CONNECT: CARRIER) YMODEMG: Y and delete all text lines starting with RC_, ERC_, ERCA_, ERCB_ ===========================================================================
